Day 4- Did you read the manga? What did you think?
I did read the manga. Plotwise I think the manga is far superior to anime number 1. I do love anime number 1, never fear, but it lacked anything Ling and Ling is such a part of FMA to me that I can't do without him. PLUS, I love the manga characterizations better than anime 1 characterizations. I could not stand Al the 'yes' man in anime 1, but I loved him in the manga. He's just as strong and opinionated as Ed, but anime number 1 robbed him of these traits. Al deserved better, the manga was the true Al.
Other characters that were FABULOUS in the manga, but sucked in anime 1 were: Barry the Chopper, Envy and Hoenhiem. I love manga HoHo so much I could cry and didn't give two flips about him in anime 1. Envy in the manga was a much more rounded character, I felt more sympathy for him in the manga. Barry was hilarious in the manga and proved useful, in anime number 1 he was pretty much a throw away villian.
So, my conclusion, while I loved anime number 1, it was my first exposure to FMA, I love the manga much better.
