Butt numbing disappointment

yeah so..this afternoon the two aforementioned teenagers who had been providing my steady drone of N64 inspired background music decided I had to take them to Oxford Comics and DVD
yeah so, ok I did, like I had anything better to do and being mother to one of them gives him an advantage
well, so there I am browsing while they run around the store and I pretend I don't know them
Oxford has an incredible anime selection, have I failed to mention that I'm an anime whore, well in case I have consider yourself informed
They get in the chinese bootleg DVD's, the ones with chinese and english subtitles and are sometimes poorly spelled or in the Yu Yu Hakusho DVD's I had Hiei and Kurama's names were mixed up..anyways
So there I am and there it is...The INUYASHA Movie, well I just about have a cow! Come on, fluffy white haired hetero goodness I can actually stomach
Being so close to christmas and all and swearing I'm not giving my teenager, or that other teenager who just seems to be hanging out with my teenager, a dime, I guiltily buy the damn thing
Yeah..so, I bring it home and hope my girlfriend doesn't flip [she doesn't] and we make pancakes for dinner after getting rid of the teenager I didn't give birth too and decide to watch it
Well...
First off, I can't find any damn english subtitles anywhere, even thought it says they are there on the box. I'm an old pro at bootleg anime, I know how to manipulate my DVD player and I tried ever setting on god's black electronic box and nothing..so I'm taking the damn thing back
But while I have it...
I decide to watch it anyways. It makes me afraid, it makes me very afraid. I makes me nervous that anime is getting WAY too popular in the states and becoming profitable. Because.. it's not that good. I rank it up there with that extremely disappointing Cowboy Bebop movie. I feel the japanese anime engine is falling prey to the american 'I'll buy that for a dollar!" attitude and cranking them out as fast as they can. HELLO..did Takahashi even watch this? I hear she's a control freak with her characters. OkOk, the animation is disappointing, it looks hacked and done by several cheap anime houses, now the plot may be good, but I don't know, I was listening to it in japanese and looking at chinese subtitles. It had it's share of funny moments. And it's LONG. Freakin' long.
So maybe I'm jumping the gun and should reserve judgement until I can see it in a format I understands.
But goshdarnitall...[snort]

prepare to be bombarded by comments...
Date: 2005-03-27 06:16 am (UTC)But you DO need to get good subtitles... the only reason I don't have more anime is because I HATE! dubbed. I surely hope that you HAVE seen Princess Mononoke... if you haven't, do it! NOW!
Heh heh, aren't teenagers great! (Myself being a teenager, oh, I'm sorry, young adult). ;)
Re: prepare to be bombarded by comments...
Date: 2005-03-27 06:28 am (UTC)Ah, now see...I don't mind dubbing, there are some sacred anime I have not and will not ever watched dubbed (Escaflowne first and foremost) but I actually like the american Inuyasha cast (especially Miroku), and I really liked the american Utena and Ranma casts too. I did not like the american Bakuretsu Hunters cast (they sucked) and I only watched it in subtitles. But on the whole I think some of the americans really care and do a good job.
So how old are you? 'Young adult' could be...17 to 21? =D
and OMG this post is over two years old! 0_0
Re: prepare to be bombarded by comments...
Date: 2005-03-27 06:42 am (UTC)I do enjoy good subbing, but it's just that having to watch the subtitles detracts from the action for me. Plus, I like understanding the language they're talking in... it's important to me I guess.
I'm 18, 19 in May.
